Let us teach you some NZ words...
Kiwi means new zealander (for the inhabitants as well as an adjectif). Most Kiwis come from oversea (England and Europe mainly). But "real" Kiwis are more rare. One day we ask someone if she was kiwi or not and she answered proudly "I'm a good old Kiwi !"
A kiwi word to say cool / OK is sweet as (witch come from "sweet as sugar"). One day someone told us that we can consider that we are bilingual when we will use this expression !
You probably know the "You're welcome" witch answer to "Thank you". But here you are often more than welcome to enter, to visit, to come back, ... (like Lyla and Kevin)
It's strange, some expressions wich seems to be french and can't be translated word by world could ! For example in the evening when we looked at the beautiful dark sky with hips of stars, we were told that the shiny line was called the Milky Way !
We do'nt always have a sunny weather, sometimes here it's raining cats and dogs, that means if you are outdoor, you will be all wet after 2 minutes.
Almost each time we go to visit someone, he offers us to drink a cup of tea or coffe. But as we are used with herbal tea (like grand ma' and grand father), we asked for but often they give us green tea because they consider it theine free (what is wrong).
Some people try to make their speech clear but it's not so clear ! For example, Cyril didn't unsderstand why Dave wanted to have a "fun call" with Jacky (one couple of our Wwoof hosts). Dave wanted just to have a call with Jackie, but to make it more clear he said a phone call.
Isa loves the triple chocolates Cookies time and on the pack is written great value per pack. That is often the case on a family pack, but sometimes we find it funny because there is only 2 ou 3 items in the pack !
We were astonished that it is written on the cereal pack "the good people of our compagny mix all great ingredients to offer you the best quality..." then we tought the bad people do the cleaning ;-). The cereals maker just want to say his employees work well.
